First Day of Summer Camp

I decided to give the kids an opportunity to participate in a more structured environment by sending them to day camp. Aleks was into it and Bastian wants to do what Aleks does, so we did the whole ridiculous application process for the scholarships for them to go. Summer camp started on Aleks' actual birthday. In the morning, despite a crazy day before, we were early. First, I took a photo of them on their first day. Then we walked to the entrance.
Where we discovered that we were too early to get inside. So we walked on a nearby path and found a lovely place to sit in the morning light.
And we waited. And I took photos.
Then they got name tags and were dropped in their individual groups and I left. And I felt weird about it. In some ways, it was freeing. I felt like I had time to get some things done. I ran a couple of errands, then had to get back to pick Bastian up after only two-and-a-half hours as his session was for preschoolers and was just a half day.

The group leader/counselor/teacher/whatever-she-is said that Bastian had some listening problems that day. I asked him about it and he said that when they were in the woods, Aleks' group walked by and Bastian ran to catch up to him. Then he said he didn't want to go back to camp and started crying. I asked why and he said he didn't like it. I asked why again and he said, "because I want to be with my family." I calmed him down and we went home for lunch.

At the end of the day, I picked Aleks up and he told me all about all his new friends and how the group sang Happy Birthday to him. Later, we ate at Tommy's as a special dinner and stopped at Big Fun because it's fun. Aleks mimicked his shirt:
