Surgery Tomorrow

Aleks is having surgery tomorrow morning. We're supposed to be there at 6 a.m., though I don't know when his surgery will actually be. He's getting new ear tubes and two teeth extracted. So it's two out-patient procedures and should not be a big deal. Thoughts for him are much appreciated, however.

Lots of kisses for your beautiful firstborn...He's a spunky fella, he'll do fine (but of course you already know that).

I'm a day late, but I'm still thinking about you guys and hoping all went well.

We went through an oral surgery for Max in November that also involved going under (tooth extraction as well an additional small filling and putting sealants on his back teeth, and oh yeah, x-rays of his whole mouth, most of which had been attempted at the dentist's office but were completely unsuccessful there, as he wouldn't even allow them to put the x-ray material in his mouth without freaking out and gagging, much less pull a whole tooth out).

It was very hard on all of us, and Max was incredibly anxious about it. They let me stay with him until he went under (I had to insist on this, as it is not standard), and they were supposed to have me there as soon as he woke up. It didn't happen, however, despite my repeated inquiries, and instead he woke up in the recovery room and was screaming and completely losing it by the time I got there.

It sounds as though you guys are a bit more relaxed going into it (it seems that Aleks has a bit more experience with this sort of thing and takes it a bit more in stride), and I hope this carried through the whole procedure and into recovery. Nevertheless, it's always stressful going through something like this (just having to be awake and functioning at that hour is a challenge, hee hee), and we are sending much love to you all!

Thanks for the well-wishing, everyone! I just got the surgery update up (takes me forever to upload all those pictures!).

Rachel, I'm so sorry you had such a lousy experience. Poor Max! :(

We had a terrible time after the first couple of surgeries, but we're pretty used to it all now, I guess. I do worry that now that Aleks is old enough to remember this stuff that he'll be reluctant to agree to some later surgeries. Especially after the bone graft, which is the most painful surgery, I hear. It's coming up in the next year or so and I'm concerned it will turn him off pretty badly. We've been lucky to be able to be very nonchalant about it all so far.
